It's free to use and easy to navigate. Take a few minutes to sign-up, create a profile, and get started finding those you have been missing for years.
The website has awesome features: you can upload photographs to create your own photo gallery; you can place a picture of yourself on your profile; you can make members your "friends" so that when each of you update your page, they receive a message; you can list your claim to fame or your special moment or someone from undergrad. Many will enjoy the career features that allow you to post your resume and interact with companies who are looking for those with your skills and talents. It's resourceful, fun, and a great way to keep up and share with others.
There are additional services for computer enthusiasts like a blog and live chat room. As well, you can find a career center and a scholarship center to use at your convenience. There is so much more. You will have to visit the site to experience all it has to offer.

Ronald Brandon (AC) Appointed by Minnesota Governor
GOVERNOR PAWLENTY APPOINTS SEVEN TO COUNCIL ON BLACK MINNESOTANS -- May 29, 2007
Governor Tim Pawlenty today announced the appointment of Don Bellfield, Ronald Brandon, Martha Holton-Dimick, Lissa Jones, Gloria Lamphear, Charity McCoy, and George Ogbonna to the Council on Black Minnesotans.
Bellfield, of Minneapolis, is a staffing specialist for the Metropolitan Council. He provides technical support on human resources issues to managers and staff. Bellfield assists in developing recommendations for policy and procedures. Bellfield is active in his community and is a patron of the arts, particularly the Penumbra Theater Company. He is a participant in the Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs, Public Policy Program. Bellfield is appointed as an to a four year term that expires January 3, 2011. He replaces Felicia Brown on the council.
Brandon, of Golden Valley, is the coordinator of complaint investigations for the Department of Civil Rights in Minneapolis. He is an attorney, trained mediator, and is certified in mediation training and conflict resolution by the U.S. Department of Justice. Brandon received his bachelor of arts degree in history from Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia, and his juris doctorate degree from Texas Southern University, Thurgood Marshall School of Law in Houston. Brandon is appointed to a four year term that expires January 3, 2011. He replaces Jeanette Taylor-Jones on the council.
Holton-Dimick, of Shorewood, is an assistant county attorney for Hennepin County in the adult prosecution division. As chief trial counsel, her duties include presenting cases to the grand jury for indictment and preparing and taking felony cases to trial. Holton-Dimick is an adjunct professor at William Mitchell College of Law. She has been a volunteer attorney for the Chrysalis Law Clinics and the Volunteer Lawyers Network. She is a member of the Minnesota Association of Black Lawyers and Minnesota Women Lawyers Board of Directors. She is the former chair of the Minnesota Board on Judicial Standards. Holton-Dimick received her juris doctorate from Marquette University School of Law in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She is admitted to practice in both Minnesota and Wisconsin. Holton-Dimick is appointed to a four year term that expires January 3, 2011. She replaces Melanie Allen on the council.
Jones, of Minneapolis, is the chief executive officer and executive director of African American Family Services. The mission of African American Family Services is to help the African American individual, family and community reach a greater state of well-being through the delivery of community-based, culturally specific chemical health, mental health, and family preservation services. Jones is also a the former owner of the Center for Organizational Development. Jones earned her bachelor of science degree in international business from Minnesota State University in Mankato and is a certified facilitator in business and leadership. Jones is appointed to a four year term that expires January 3, 2011. She replaces Robert Jones on the council.
amphear, of St. Paul, is an employee and volunteer for Ramsey County Community Corrections. Currently, as community corrections worker in the county detention center, she supervises juvenile offenders in the detention work program. Lamphear's volunteer experience includes serving as a guardian ad litem, assistant family court officer and secretary for the Volunteers in Corrections (VIC) advisory board. In addition to her job with Ramsey County Lamphear is a cultural family liaison for the Storefront Group. The Storefront Group is a multi-faceted human service and mental health provider focused on promoting the positive growth and development of school-aged children and their families in the Twin Cities and surrounding suburbs. Lamphear has a masters degree in public administration from Hamline University, and earned her bachelor of arts degree on organizational studies from Bethel College in St. Paul. Lamphear is appointed to complete a four year term that ends January 4, 2010. She replaces Jackie Johnson on the council.
McCoy, of St. Paul, is a service coordinator for DYMAX Services, Inc. in St. Paul. McCoy is a committee member on the University of St. Thomas African American Alumni Initiative and a former member of the board of directors of Minority Interchange-Minneapolis. She received her bachelor of arts degree in marketing management from Concordia University in St. Paul. McCoy is appointed to complete a four year term that ends January 4, 2010. She replaces Reginald Edwards on the council.
Ogbonna, of Andover, works for the School of Public Health at the University of Minnesota. In his position as assistant to the division head, he is responsible for assessing the human resources needs of the division and matching staff to faculty support needs. He is experienced in human resources policies and best practices and effective problem solving. He was a 2006 policy fellow at the Herbert H. Humphrey Institute and a member of the Committee on Immigration & Higher Education in Minnesota. Ogbonna earned his masters of business administration and management information systems from Metro State University , his masters degree in public policy administration from the Humphrey Institute, and his bachelor of arts degree in finance from Augsburg College . Ogbonna is appointed to complete a four-year term that expires January 7, 2008. He replaces Debra Jacoway on the council. The Council on Black Minnesotans advises the Governor and legislature on issues of particular importance to black Minnesotans.
The Council is made up of 17 members, including 13 appointed by the Governor.

Email from HU - New Cafeteria
The students are on their much-anticipated Spring break this week, so we are “holding down” the campus on their behalf. Please keep the Pirates basketball team in your thoughts as they are competing in the MEAC this week – and if you haven’t heard, we beat Howard last night! Go Pirates!!!
In an effort to meet Hampton University’s $5 million challenge goal for the New Student Cafeteria, we have created several documents that will be helpful as your class raises money. These documents include:
1. Information sheet – provides general information about the cafeteria.
2. Class Leader/Call for Participation letter – designed to help bring class members together to raise money for the cafeteria
3. Pledge Sheet – If alumni have misplaced the giving envelope, this can be printed out and mailed to Hampton University. It also has link to Hampton’s online giving page. Please email to your entire class. This can also be found on our google group website. There is a link to the right on this page.
4. Cafeteria Campaign Schema – Can be used to encourage participation and for those who want to give $1,000 to buy a pane with other classmates. This can also be accessed on our google group website. There is a link to the right of this page.
5. Volunteer Solicitation letter – Use this letter to gain volunteer participation.
This will be a useful tool for you to round-up volunteers that are willing to make calls to touch every Hamptonian.

Tavis Smiley to be at Hampton U, February 2006
Smiley to broadcast from Hampton, By Andrew Petkofsky, RTDWILLIAMSBURG -- Tavis Smiley's 2007 "State of the Black Union" will be broadcast live from Hampton University on Feb. 10 as part of the ongoing commemoration of Jamestown's 400th anniversary. Jamestown 2007, the state agency organizing the commemoration, announced yesterday that the symposium, held annually since 1999, will take place atHampton University's Convocation Center and will be broadcast live via theC-SPAN cable channel. The event brings together America's black leaders, educators, public policymakers, community organizers and religious leaders to examine the black influence in America. This year's edition will focus on Jamestown, which is near where the first Africans came to America in 1619, officials said. Jamestown, founded in 1607, was the first permanent English settlement in America. "Jamestown changed the world in many ways, but perhaps it shaped our nation most profoundly the day Africans arrived," Smiley, a radio and television personality, said in the news release announcing the broadcast. "I can't think of a more relevant place to talk about the issues facing our community today than the place where African culture became American culture." Guests on the broadcast will include Princeton professor Cornel West; Angela Glover Blackwell, founder of PolicyLink; and the Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, officials said. Admission is free. More Pictures Homecoming 2006
Here are a few more pictures from Homecoming 2006. The young ladies who are not members of our class are Miss Hampton 2006 and two from her court after Chapel Sunday. . Nancy's daughter and Mom are in that picture as well. Dee's two teenage daughters are pictured with Nancy's daughter. You probably recognize the rest.
Homecoming 2006 - What A Blast!!!!
You can see from the pictures that the Class of 1986 was well represented at Homecoming. We had a blast. There were so many of us there. From the looks of most of these pictures, it looks like there were only ladies from our class in attendance. However, there were many of our male comfidants, not just Dana Hubbard.
By the way, Senator Bobby Scott was not in our class. The tailgate turned out to be so much fun. It was a place where we could congregate, get reacquainted, eat, and purchase Dana's book and Gina's CD. The weather was perfect. The music was good and we won the game!!!! If you missed it this year, make plans to be there in 2007 because the Class of 1986 will represent again.
Remember you guys. HU needs us. We are a prestigious educational institution that has a tremendous amount to offer. The only way that we will continue in our tradition of excellence is if we support our Home By The Sea. Though it may be a sacrifice, write a check to Hampton through this class. We are doing awesome things in our communities and we need to let the world know that a step in our building blocks of greatness was Hampton University. It is a university worthy of all great minds. PLEASE GIVE BACK!!!!!!!!

A Challenge from the Class of 1980
Class of 1986 Challenge
Raising money for an organization is always a challenging experience. It takes planning and much effort because your vision is success. Each year the National Hampton Alumni Association, Inc. (NHAA) implements a strategic plan to find innovative and unique ways to encourage the Hampton Family to give to the Alumni Giving Fund. It’s important to give at reunion time. But, it is equally important to give annually that helps increase our donor base and monetary giving. Those of you who are in corporate America know that many organizations solicit contributions for their fund raising activities. The first thing senior executives want to know is what are your alumni contributing to the giving program. Currently, we have about 18% of 25,000 alumni contributing to the Alumni Giving Program. This is not where we want to be compared to our sister schools with an average donor level of 35-40%. They have higher averages because their alumnus contributes annually, as well as during their reunion years. NHAA, Inc.’s goal is to encourage alumni to be consistent contributors while you focus on the larger contribution for your reunion year. We also want you to understand that giving what you can is appreciative.
The Class of 1980 has raised the bar of giving to an unprecedented level for classes celebrating its 25th reunion year. In 2005, this class presented its contribution of $100,000 to NHAA, Inc. and Hampton University at Reunion Weekend. The standard was set that initiated the challenge for reunion classes from 1981 and above to continue this level of giving. Class of 1986, accept the challenge and go forward with achieving this goal as good stewards of the Hampton Family. It’s about what you can do for your alma mater. And, you do it well.

Reunion, May 2006, We Had a Blast!!!!
About 75 of us came together in May of this year at our Home By The Sea to enjoy 20 years since graduation. Here are a few pictures from that weekend. Thanks to many of you, we presented over $20,000 from our class at the banquet that weekend. The next time that we will present as a class will be May 2011. Hampton University's Homecoming 2006
Hampton is playing Winston Salem State University for Homecoming, Saturday, October 28, 2006. Many of the members of the our class will be there. Hope to see you there also. We are planning a few activities for that weekend so that we can spend some time together. As soon as those plans are finalized, we will share them on this site.
Most of the hotels are totally booked, but many of us are staying at the Point Plaza Hotel http://www.pointplazasuites.com/ on J. Clyde Morris Blvd. in Newport News (1-800-841-1112 ). It's not far from campus. They still have rooms available.
