Hampton University at the Top of HBCUs
NORFOLK, Va. (AP) -- Hampton University has been named among the best in historically black colleges across the nation.
U.S. News and World Report released the first-ever ranking today.
Hampton came in at Number Three behind Spelman College in Atlanta and Howard University in Washington, D.C.
Other Virginia schools that made the list included Virginia State University, which came in at Number 15.
Norfolk State University tied for Number 34 out of 34 rankings issued with three other colleges in West Virginia, North Carolina and Alabama.
There are a little more than a hundred historically black colleges and universities across the nation. Scattered mostly across the South, they were typically formed during segregation to serve black students who white schools turned away.
The magazine uses factors like graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, financial resources and alumni giving to determine where to place colleges.

Class of 86: Plans for Homecoming 2007
Regarding Homecoming 2007, we were hoping to have a teleconference meeting. However, we were not able to secure the technology needed for the meeting.
Thus, this correspondence will serve to inform the class regarding plans for our class for the meeting.
I am asking that you read below and place your comments by each. I will compile the comments and send them to everyone. Please feel free to make suggestion, give input, volunteer to help, and so forth. Your contribution is VERY important.
Please use a different color to comment.
1. We are hoping to conduct a 50/50 raffle Saturday. We will sell tickets for a set amount, and the class will keep half, and the winner will receive half. We need to exchange ideas about how to most effectively use the proceeds from the raffle. (i.e., donate it to the university in the name of the Class of 1986, use it to do a mass mailing to our class, etc.)
2. We will share a booth with Dana Hubbard and have membership forms for classmates to complete. We need members to take shifts staffing the booth.
3. It would be great if we could meet Friday evening over cocktails or dinner so that we could discuss fund-raising efforts for the university and the role that we, as a class, play, especially as it pertains to the year 2011, our 25th reunion.
Thank you for your input.
Please share this page with other classmates and have them return it to nancymcline@yahoo.com

Freebies on the Internet
There are free resources on the internet waiting for you. Everything from tutorial services, to that lost manual for the DVD player you purchased 2 months ago. Many of the resources are not used because people are not aware that they are there. If you have a few minutes to do a search, what you need you may find for free on the internet. However, you have to be careful because some software come with spyware that will phish for your personal information. If you are not sure, do not download it, but you are safe with the more reptuable companies like Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft.
Here are a few of my favorites.
Skype
http://www.skype.com
You want to use Skype if you want to communicate via computer with live conversation and a video cam. This is how you stay connected for free with your family serving overseas, with grandchildren, and friends from college who sit at their computers a great deal of the day. It's free to download and free to use with others who have skype. So just send an email and tell them to download skype also. Of course there are upgrades for a cost, but the basic free download is all you really need unless you are doing conference calls with large numbers of people. Once you create your skype account, give me a call at "nancyjohnsoncline" see you there!

Forget about the tape recorder and follow the rest of us into the 21st Century. On wildvoice you can record using your computer so that you create a digital audio file. You need a mic and speakers so that you can record and hear what you playback. Wildvoice does the rest. It's free and easy to use. You have to create a free account and then you begin recording, AND you can edit. This is great if you want to add some voice-over to your website or if you want to create a podcast.
